The Causeway - Sunday evening

As much as he wasn't looking forward to this day, it was here, and there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. It was time to go.

His stuff had been packed up and sent ahead save for the few things he'd left for Savannah. A few shirts, a hoodie; small incidentals that she'd wanted to keep with her. He'd said his goodbye to Destiny, and rather quietly did he and Savannah make their way to the causeway.

Everything that needed to be said, had already been said. It was the goodbye that was going to hurt like hell.

"No," she giggled. "You're the only super hero I have room for in my heart and my life."

"Ben is not a superhero," he smirked. "He's just one rock away from a landslide."

Johnny knew this, he just couldn't help the rock jokes. They were awesome! Come on!

"He thinks so too," he joked. But okay, enough of picking on the thing when he wasn't here.

"You got any plans for this week since there are no classes?"

"I'm going on an overnight trip with Miss Ghanima's class, but other than that I have no real plans." She smiled slightly. "Unless I convince Sean to give me some extra shifts at the store."

"Right," he nodded. "The field trip. And don't push yourself, sweetheart. If you feel the need to work more often, go for it, but don't overdo it."

"I really doubt Sean will allow me to," she admitted. "He doesn't want me to spend all of my time in the store, either."

"I knew why I liked him so much," he said, grinning. "He's awesome, Savannah. Lean on him if you need to." Johnny knew that Sean would look after her, and more than he usually did.

"I know he's there for me," she nodded. Not that she would go to him if she was falling apart, but Sean just always seemed to see through her pretending.

That's because Savannah couldn't pretend all that well. Her eyes were easy to read. At least to him, and Sean too.

"I'm not worried," he assured her, seeing how the lie passed over.

She laughed softly. "I know you better than that."

"Work with me here, babe. The lie sounds good, right?"

She smiled slightly. "It sounds very good, sweetheart."

Johnny moved in towards her and tugged on her hand to pull her close. "Just try to believe it and we'll both be alright."

She nodded, coming closer to him as he tugged.

"I do believe that, sweetheart. I do."

"Awesome," he whispered, leaning his brow against hers. "No goodbyes, right? Just a see ya later."

She blinked her eyes, closing them against the tears that had sprung up.

"No goodbyes," she agreed in a whisper.

His eyes were wet too and he couldn't say anything else. He didn't trust himself to speak just yet. So he held her, he held her close, loving her with the protective comfort of his arms.

She held onto him, feeling safe in his arms just like she always did. She had promised herself that she wasn't going to break down, but she was shaking a little as they stood together.

He felt her trembling easily and it was crushing him. His arms tightened and he buried his face in against her neck, whispering he loved her, over and over again.

Savannah buried her face in his chest. She heard him whispering to her and her arms tightened around him. She said his name and repeated that she loved him.

He kissed her neck, along her jawline, over her cheeks and mouth, her brow, and temples. He rained affection on her, inhaling deeply the scent that was all her own. "I am so in love with you and you will never know just how much I cherish you. You are precious to me, Savannah. Take good care of yourself for me..."

She blinked her eyes again as he did this and swallowed a few times before she could find her voice.

"I love you so much, Johnny," she whispered. "You are very important to me and there is never going to be anyone who will come close to that. I promise, I'll take as good care of myself as I can. I will."

He nodded, pleased, stared hard at her face and deep into her eyes. "Go now," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion as his bottom lip trembled. "No more tears."

This hurt so much. She nodded, looking into his eyes as she tried to keep her tears from spilling over. She knew that he didn't want her to stay and watch him disappear across the Causeway, but she would have.

"Love you," she whispered, her voice trembling as she said the words. She reluctantly forced herself to step back, even though she was still holding onto his hand.
