The Arms Hotel, Suite 621 - AKA Universal Hospital - Saturday late afternoon
Johnny was still miserable. And ashamed. A bastard. He was the worst sort of husband out there. And Savannah, well, she was still beautifully comatose, which didn't help with the guilt here.
Not for the first time this day did he damn the sunshine that wanted to make everything cheerful.

![]() | Though it was true that Chloe was concerned about her aunt, there was something more at stake. She stood in the doorway silently before entering the room. "How does it feel to have destroyed two families, Uncle Johnny?" |
![]() Johnny | The cringe was evident in his broad, well-shaped shoulders. Johnny looked over his shoulder at the girl. "Don't take another step in this room. If you do, you'll regret it." |
Chloe | She wiped her tears away angrily. "She's my aunt. I have every right to be here." She sniffled and then gave him a look that only a young teen could manager. "Someone who loves her should be here with her." |
![]() Johnny | "I love her," he ground out. "I love her. God, Chloe I live for her and you know that." |
![]() Chloe | "I thought I did," she fired back. "You guys, my parents, you're supposed to be the fairy tales come true. But then you and Dad had to go and wreck it! My mom is heartbroken, my favorite aunt is dying and I hate you both for it!" |
![]() Johnny | "Then hate me for it, hate him, at this point I really don't give a damn!" Frustration combined with shame and guilt, tore at the very core of him, and his blue eyes flashed angrily at her. "I didn't want for this to happen." |
![]() Chloe | What part? Us finding out, or you and my dad cheating on the women who loved you more than their own lives?" |
![]() Johnny | "I swear, Chloe. If you don't get the hell out right now..." He seethed with anger, hurt, denial that ate at his insides. It was one time. Only one time. Dammit, Sean. Johnny looked up at the bare, stark, 'hospital ceiling', and planted both hands low on his hips as he cocked a leg. He'd give anything to take back that passion filled night. The one that seemed to secure Savannah's fate with each passing second. |
![]() Chloe | "I'm not going anywhere," Chloe said stubbornly, looking at the uncle she had practically idolized. "I don't want her to lose anyone else." |
![]() Johnny | "She'll never lose me. Never," he vowed vehemently. |
![]() Chloe | "Then why?" Chloe demanded, her voice sounding so young in its despair. "Why did you and Dad do this?" Tears were sliding down her face. "My mom never cries or drinks and she's doing both. My aunt ran her car off a cliff and now no one knows if she's going to live." She choked. "Why would you leave her for her brother?!" |
![]() Johnny | Johnny faced her fully now, eyes red-rimmed and blazing with heated anguish. "I'm not leaving her. I would never leave her! It was one time, Chloe. One! And I swear with every fiber of my being that it will never happen again!" This situation was close to getting out of hand. "I'm sorry about your aunt, but she's responsible for her own actions and if she dies, then learn from her mistake." Ominous music was playing somewhere, somehow, very low - but Johnny kept his gaze fixated on Chloe. |
Chloe | The music was getting a little louder as she faced him over Savannah's bed. "How dare you?!" Chloe had tears streaming down her face now, making her look even younger than her fifteen years. "Aunt Savannah didn't make the mistake, Uncle Johnny. You did. You and dad!" Her hands clenched at her sides. "If she dies, it's not going to be because of a mistake that she made!" She reached out and placed a shaking hand on Savannah's arm. "If she dies, it will be because you killed her just as sure as if you had been the one driving that car." |
![]() Johnny | "I'm desperately trying to hold onto what little sanity I have left, Chloe. Don't you dare preach to me what I already know!" The pounding of his heart beat in time with the music. Blue eyes met blue eyes and without a single flutter of lashes, a lone tear worked it's way down Johnny's cheek. "She's going to be alright. And when she wakes up, I am going to make her put all of this behind her. I love her. You know that. I'm good for her and always will be." |
![]() Chloe | "I used to think you were," she said, her own blue eyes full of emotion. "I never would have imagined in a million years that you were capable of hurting her like this." She swallowed hard, trying to stiffen her back like her parents always did when they were hurting. It was much more believable on an adult than a fifteen year old. "You and Aunt Savannah made me believe in fairy tales and happily ever afters. Now all I can see is that Prince Charming is a god damned phony!" She swatted tears out of her eyes. "I hope that Aunt Savannah wakes up and I hope she beats the shit out of both you and Dad for what you've done. I hope you rot in hell, Uncle Johnny!" She spun on her heel and ran from the room. |
![]() Johnny | Hands fisted at his sides, he could only take what she said and allow his anger at her, to focus on himself. It was true what she said, all of it, and dammit if he didn't deserve it. Alone with Savannah once more, Johnny sat and bowed over her bedside, head in his hands. And cried desperate, grief stricken tears. |
