Rm 217, Thursday night

When Savannah walked into their room, she would find a cute little surprise lounging on the bed. Johnny had searched all day long for a puppy he thought she would like. There were tons, literally, and he had the hardest time choosing.

He finally decided on one that looked rather lonely, a little sad, and bought her immediately. Then he went shopping for a doggie bed (though he imagined the pup would sleep with them), toys, food, blankets... everything he thought a puppy would need.

Now he just sat back, flipping through a magazine, and waited for her to walk in.

[Johnny is here for Savannah, but the door is very much open.]

Johnny kissed her back, moving his hand to her cheek. "Do you like her, Savannah? Really?"

Savannah nodded, leaning into his hand. "I do, Johnny. She's beautiful."

He lowered his eyes, feeling a moments shyness when he murmured, "I've been an ass lately... and I'm sorry for it." The whole coversation at work yesterday really bothered him and he knew it had to weigh on her mind as well.

The puppy was nuzzling Savannah's neck as she lay her hand against Johnny's face. "You don't need to apologize, you didn't do anything wrong."

Yes, it weighed on her mind, but not because she thought he did anything wrong -- because she thought she had.

"You are amazing, you know that?" he said, turning his head to kiss the palm of her hand, his eyes on hers.

"Why do you say that?"

"Because you are so easy going - I know when I've been an insensitive asshole and you still are so sweet to me," he said, then offered, "I'm here for you, you know, if you want to talk to me, about anything. Okay?"

Savannah met his eyes and then nodded. "I know you are... and it can't be easy being involved with me," she murmured. "I know I can get... emotional and attached."

"I'm just as attached... and I guess it just frightened me a bit when you worry so much about me. I don't like to see you stressed about anything, least of all me."

Johnny cocked his head, giving her a look. "'Course I do."

"And I worry about you."

He sighed a little but caved. "Point taken."

"Love is like that."

"Yeah, I suppose it is," he said and reached to stroke his hand over the puppy's neck. "So? What should we call our little sweetie pie?"

"I was going to call her Teotwawki, but she seems too pretty for that..."

Johnny bit his lip. Surely she wasn't serious? "Yeah..."

Why did Savannah seem a little off tonight? Was he just looking for something that wasn't there?

"Whatever you like, sweetheart... " he paused, searched her eyes. "You okay tonight?"

Savannah nuzzled the puppy and looked into his face. Her eyes were sad. "We can call her Destiny?"

"Destiny is fine, I like that," he replied, frowning slightly at the sadness he saw in her eyes. "Savannah... what is it?"

"Kinda got in trouble with Mr. Skywalker today..."

Ah, god. Johnny well knew what that was like because he's been there. Damn.

"What happened?"

Savannah chewed on her bottom lip. "He's unhappy with something I said I was going to be doing this summer."
